Wrestling Forum _ World Wrestling Entertainment _ Triple H

Triple H was my favorite wrestler for along time so i took notice to the frequent criticism he gets for being married to Stephanie and for pushing down other superstars. It wasn't too long ago when people were saying that he should be able to break through the glass ceiling. At that time stone cold was giving stunner after stunner and the rock was dropping peoples elbow after peoples elbow but since they are both gone no one ever says anything nasty about them.

there is no doubt that triple h needs to reinvent himself, but honestly the wwe as a whole needs to reinvent itself. There arent to many wrestlers that can be believable opponents for triple h or john cena for that matter. But only vince mcmahon is to blame for that. I think MVP could be a legitimate opponent for both triple h and john cena but that dude is going to need some new ring attire before he ever does that. He might even need to get a haircut. The long sleeves on the upper half of his attire just clashes with the short bottom half too much. It looks stupid.

The problem isn't with Trips himself, it's about how much of him we see. It's always HHH. It's always about HHH. We know he's a main event player, but the WWE seems to push him as the ONLY main eventer. There are other people, but they are almost made as a joke in comparison.

Other than Cena, who has been made to seem dominant? No one. H3 can win insurmountable odds, but Orton has to win by nefarious means.

It's how much HHH we get shoved down our throat.

QUOTE (Jim Cornette)
Problem is, as hard as he's been crammed down people's throats for the past 10 years, he should have surpassed Hogan, Austin, and Rock, but HHH is what is called in the business "the guy that works with the guy that draws money."

Bingo.

HHH v. Rock, Austin, Foley, etc. = classic

HHH v. the current crop of "stars" = not so much

I think the problem lies in that he is, as Cornette wrote, "the guy that works with the guy that draws money", but he is better than just about anyone they can put him with other than Edge, Jericho, HBK and 'Taker (...and how many times has he been in programs with the latter 3?). Like him or not, he really is a great (albeit slowing down) performer...but he simply doesn't possess that indefinable "it" factor that makes a mega-star.

I expect to take some shit for this, but I compare HHH's station in the business to that of Ricky Steamboat.

I AM NOT COMPARING THEIR IN-RING SKILLS, OKAY??? laugh.gif

Yes, Steamboat is a bona fide legend but he WAS NOT the guy whose back you balance a company upon. Steamboat "worke[ed] with the guy that draws money."

Steamboat v. Flair, Savage = classic

Steamboat v. Jake Roberts, Honky Tonk = not so much

The problem goes back to what every problem in today's wrestling goes back to: no territories, lack of depth (due to no territories), non-wrestling people handling the booking, and WWE's poison Kool-Aid development system.

A very insightful post americaninchina. Just few weeks ago HHH faced MVP in the Night of Champions tournament, perfect opportunity to elevate MVP and finally drop the endless Orton-HHH saga. IIRC HHH had a taped leg and King and Cole were constantly bringing up his injury, MVP could have exploited this and have an upset victory over Hunter.

btw can anyone remember when was the last time that HHH lost cleanly in a 1on1 match?

Finnally great to see some people who understand why Triple H is a main eventer without a dobut, but will never be the greatest of all time like they want to push him and make us beleive that he is. He is that consistent main eventer performer like a Ted DiBiase, thats jusst missing that little something extra that keeps him from being a box office attraction. I'm a Randy Orton fan and I have to admit its the same thing with him aswell. With the right guys he's great, but with others somethings missing.
