I think the show is hit or miss, most weeks, just like any other wrestling show. Week before last was a Great (almost phenomenal) Show. Last week, not too bad.
Like I said before, the moment Joey was canned I let that last little microscopic sliver of hope die...thus ending my lamenting the loss of "naked bitches and bloody bodies" etc. Focus on the positives(Sydal/Bourne), make fun of the negatives (until recently, Adamle).
I see it as "Heat with a belt" because it serves the same function as Heat once did: give new stars some TV time with established stars, thus giving them a chance to grow. The second they start REALLY getting over...whisk them off to RAW or SmackDown (ala Kofi) or still call them ECW stars but mostly showcase them on one of the big two.
The biggest positive I can see for ECW is they pack a lot of wrestling into the scant 45-47 minutes they're alotted every week.
The biggest negative I can see is that the brand doesn't really have an identity, therefore the fans don't have anything to figuratively hold in their hands and say "This is ECW".
No, it's not a great show but it's also doesn't suck. For pure, 100%, unadulturated suckage...simply tune in to TNA: the wrestling equivalent to a glory hole (only minus the glory).
As far as Cena goes, my thoughts on him are elsewhere on this board in some "Cena Sucks" (or otherwise cleverly titled) thread. To quickly recap: I don't think he sucks. With the right opponent (HBK), he looks almost great sometimes. Love him or loathe him, you have to recognize and respect his obvious passion for the business. He's not there for the smarks, he's there for the kids. While the crowd reaction is split between cheers and boos, the truth is that it's the loudest reaction of the night on most shows. Until he's met with silence and/or indifference, he's going to be a top star. Deal with it.
